Hello! My name is Jordan Harding, owner of FileCart.com. I've decided to make a list of all the best software I've come across in the last 10 years of being in the download site business. This is a page people can refer to after a fresh install or just to replace their not-so-good products. This is a list of only the best software, competitors aren't listed, this is for the best of the best. I'll be adding to this list as I remember more products but here it is, have fun! MP3 Players:
WinAmp
This little jewel has been on my desktop since day one, it's extremely lightweight and very easy to use. It has very little memory usage and is feature packed, while it has excellent video support I just don't like to play videos on it, maybe you will, give it a try.
System Security:
Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
Popups? Weird looking programs installed without your consent? System Crashing? Running this free tool won't get rid of everything but it will certainly help a lot.
Spybot Search & Destroy
This will clean up whatever ad-aware didn't catch. And if you're still having problems then you have a virus.
FTP Client:
FlashFXP
I've tried several dozen ftp clients, I thought they all sucked pretty bad until I started using this one.
Compression:
WinRAR
Winzip was the king for a long time, then rar format came out, and this great piece of software does it all.
Instant Messaging:
MSN Messenger
With the hordes of instant messaging programs coming out, and with icq on it's death bed. Let's all please just stick to one, here it is, use it, love it, want it.
Messenger Plus! Live
This is a extension to windows live messenger, very feature rich and fun, download it, it's free!
System Utilites:
DAEMON Tools
I use this product quite a bit, it's a drive mounter. You can convert your cd's and dvd's into iso's and what not and then use this program to make your computer think there's a real cd in your drive.

Anti-Virus:
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
The question is simple, a product that will get rid of all my viruses without costing me a cent, and here's the answer.
Web Authoring:
Adobe Dreamweaver
I've been coding for 14 years now, I started with hotdog professional. A good editor but a little too clunky. Then I moved to allaire homesite which was great, but then macromedia bought it and upgraded it to dreamweaver, and now adobe owns it. The bottom line is this product has been in development for over a decade through three or more companies. With that being said, this is definitely the best. Use "coder" style, you won't learn anything "designing" web pages, that's for noobs ;)
System Maintenance:
FreeRAM XP Pro
This is free and it frees up ram no longer assigned to a process, making your pc noticeably faster (if you have a lot of ram to begin with)
System Mechanic (approx $60)
For 60 bucks this is the best tool there is to keep your system in the green, it does everything you'd ever need or want, try it!
CD/DVD Burning/Tools:
Nero
A great package, built extremely well. Although I couldn't get it to work on vista.
Ashampoo Burning Studio
A lot like nero but works flawlessly on vista.
SSH/Telnet Client:
Putty
Anyone that knows how to use ssh/telnet should already know that this is by far the best free client.
