Directory Report is a good piece of software, although it's scope will be limited. Directory Report, as it's name suggests, is useful for making reports on directories. Specifically, you can find out information about directories and the files inside them, you can compare the files inside them, identify large files, and even perform CRC checks to make sure files are valid. The entire interface is handled through a series of menu items at the top of the window, with a toolbar of commonly used items (Save, Scan, Rescan, CRC Check, etc.) directly below it, and two panes listing root directories (the top directory in a list) and the directories. The scanning is quite quick, scanning the ~30,000 items in my My Documents folder in about 45 seconds. This is on a Pentium 4 M 1.7Ghz, with 768MB of RAM running Windows XP. Aside from a momentary pause while scanning a large amount of HTML documents stored in one folder the program was quite quick and entirely responsive. The one downside to this program is that it will probably take someone quite a while to discover all the options and features in the program and how they work, however with so many options this is generally unavoidable. A good help file listing commonly used options for quick searching. This product serves it's niche well, and for anyone who's looking for comprehensive information about the files and directories on their computer this is a great place to start.
