Melomania is a truly a prolific organizer for all virtually all audio media anyone might find in their collection. If your anything like myself, you've realized many times that you have no idea what is available in those stacks of CDs and endless playlists. Melomania serves as a tool to help remind what is there and find it effortlessly. The interface can be summarized essentially as a tabbed version of windows explorer. The Windows Explorer-like functionality offers the comfort of familiarity, while adding the versatility of tabbed browsing, which is one of my favorite features of modern browsers. Within this interface lies an efficient categorization process, and search engine. Categorization is not limited only to the format, but also groups by genre, artist, album name, or even custom collections that you define. Afterwards it is possible to search based on defined categories, or words and phrases found within artist, album, or song names, or even notes that have been added to the media your looking for. Melomania takes advantage of internet databases to fill in missing information on a particular piece, or even retrieve album covers, where this information is missing and available. Perhaps one of the most interesting features Melomania offers is its media tracker, allowing you to attach any selection to a location you define, whether its file on your hard drive, a shelf on your entertainment unit, or even if its been lent out to a friend. This could certainly come in handy in a year when your wondering who has your copy of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA". And of course all this information is exportable in a variety of formats, including Excel and Word, making for easy list and label making. All in all, serves it purpose very well, and at $49.95, seems like a steal.
